Recantation is prevalent in child sexual abuse cases, especially when the abuser is someone close to the family or from within the home.  This session will provide research-based information focusing on identifying risk factors and ways to prevent recantation, practical steps for the MDT to take in the event recantation does occur, as well as a sample MDT protocol for the MDT's consideration.

With supervisory level representatives from the MDTs affiliated with Foothills CAC, Jerri Sites will facilitate the MDT response and CAC protocol revision to include steps identified in her Research to Practice paper regarding recantation in an effort to reduce the rate of recantation in the areas served by the Center.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify research-based risk factors for recantation
  • Discuss ways the MDT can prevent recantation by implementing steps within protocol
  • Discuss how the MDT can respond to cases of recantation
