South Carolina CACs See a 3% Increase in 2025 Service Numbers

South Carolina’s Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) served 14,184 children in 2025—a 3% increase over 2024 and part of a striking long-term trend. This figure represents a 74% surge since 2016, when 8,160 children received services, and a 122% increase from the 6,386 children served in 2009.

Statewide Network of Support

South Carolina CACs consist of 17 primary CACs and 14 satellite CAC locations, many of which serve multiple counties to ensure comprehensive coverage across the state. These 31 centers collectively provide trauma-informed, child-centered services, guided by the SCNCAC Development Plan and the South Carolina Child Abuse Response Protocol Act as a framework for coordinated response to child abuse.

Who We Serve

  • The majority (69%) of children receiving services in 2025 were under age 13.
  • Sexual abuse remained the leading allegation at 44.7% of cases, with physical abuse accounting for 32%.
  • In more than 91% of cases, the alleged offender was known to the child or family, with only 8.7% identified as strangers.

CACs provided 109,958 total services throughout the year, including forensic interviews, medical examinations, mental health treatment, victim advocacy, case management, case coordination, crisis intervention, prevention programming, and additional support services for both children and vulnerable adults.
