A Month of Awareness, Action, and Impact

April marked Child Abuse Prevention Month in South Carolina—a time when Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) and their community partners came together to raise awareness, support families, and reinforce the importance of protecting children across the state.

LIVE DATA PROJECT

Throughout the month, CACs engaged their communities through outreach events, education initiatives, and visible reminders of the shared responsibility to prevent abuse. While awareness is a critical piece of prevention, it is only part of the equation. Effective child abuse prevention also depends on a strong, coordinated statewide response—one that is guided by best practices and informed by reliable, timely data.

That commitment to data-driven impact is why SCNCAC was proud to finalize its near live data project during Child Abuse Prevention Month. This initiative strengthens our ability to capture and reflect the ongoing work of CACs and multidisciplinary team (MDT) partners across South Carolina.

The near live data is now featured directly on our homepage, where users can view key metrics at a glance. By clicking on each data block, visitors are taken to a dedicated page that provides deeper insight into our three primary areas of focus

With the launch of near live data, we are enhancing transparency and responsiveness by offering regularly updated, year-to-date information as it is submitted and validated. This allows stakeholders to better understand trends, measure impact, and make informed decisions that strengthen the statewide response.

CAC DAY PRESS CONFERENCE

South Carolina leaders, advocates, and lawmakers gathered at the Statehouse on April 1, 2026, to recognize the 15th Annual Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) Day, with an official proclamation declaring the day statewide. The event—hosted by the SC Attorney General’s Office—highlighted the critical role CACs play in supporting children impacted by abuse and strengthening South Carolina’s coordinated response.

In 2025 alone, CACs served 14,184 children and provided more than 49,000 direct services, including forensic interviews, medical care, mental health treatment, and advocacy.

Speakers emphasized that these numbers represent thousands of children and families impacted, while also underscoring the ongoing need for sustainable funding to maintain services and support a growing demand.

State leaders, including representatives from the Attorney General’s Office, Department of Social Services, and child advocacy organizations, stressed the importance of collaboration through multidisciplinary teams. They highlighted CACs as both a compassionate and effective model that reduces trauma for children while improving outcomes.

As CACs look ahead, the commitment remains clear: to ensure every child in South Carolina has access to protection, support, and a path toward healing.
