Child Advocacy Center of Aiken County | Full-Time, Non-Exempt

The Forensic Interviewer/Therapist is responsible for conducting legally sound, developmentally appropriate forensic interviews of children and vulnerable individuals who may have experienced abuse or witnessed violence, and for providing trauma-focused therapeutic services to child victims and their non-offending family members.

This position bridges investigative and clinical functions, ensuring continuity of care from disclosure through recovery while adhering to national and state protocols. The Forensic Interviewer/Therapist works closely with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to deliver coordinated services that promote child safety, support healing, and strengthen family wellbeing.


Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Conduct neutral, non-leading forensic interviews in accordance with South Carolina and National Children’s Alliance (NCA) standards.
    • Coordinate interview scheduling and case communication with law enforcement, the Department of Social Services, and other MDT partners.
    • Document and record interviews following CAC policy and legal confidentiality requirements.
    • Provide trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy for child victims and non-offending caregivers, using models such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) or comparable modalities.
    • Conduct clinical assessments to determine treatment needs and create individualized therapeutic plans.
    • Maintain detailed, confidential documentation of therapy sessions and forensic interviews.
    • Offer crisis intervention and stabilize child and family emotional needs following disclosure or investigation.
    • Participate in MDT case review meetings to discuss case progress, treatment updates, and service coordination.
    • Provide written summaries of therapeutic progress (when applicable) to MDT partners while ensuring confidentiality compliance.
    • Contribute to case consultation and interdisciplinary coordination for referrals to medical, legal, or additional community services.
    • Participate in professional development and required forensic interview and therapy-specific training.
    • Assist with CAC community outreach, prevention education, and special programs as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field required.
    • Current South Carolina licensure or licensure eligibility as an LPC, LMSW, LISW-CP, or LMFT.
    • Certification or formal training in forensic interviewing of children (e.g., ChildFirst, NCAC, CornerHouse) required or must be obtained within six months of employment.
    • Minimum two years of experience providing therapy to children and families, preferably with trauma or abuse exposure.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of child development, dynamics of abuse, and trauma-informed clinical practices.
    • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain neutrality during investigative processes and empathy within therapeutic relationships.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with NCATrak or other case management software preferred.
    • Successful completion of criminal background and child abuse registry checks.

Working Conditions:

    • Work primarily occurs on-site at the Child Advocacy Center of Aiken County
    • Required use of forensic interview recording systems and therapeutic office environment.
    • Travel occasionally required to Barnwell Satellite Office on Thursdays for interviews and therapy session.
    • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for community outreach, volunteer events, or Center functions.
    • Regular exposure to emotionally sensitive subject matter related to child abuse cases.

Compensation & Schedule:

    • Salary: $52,000 annually before licensure / $54,000 annually once licensure is obtained
    • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week)
    • Estimated Start Date: January 2, 2026
    • Location: Aiken County, South Carolina
    • Reports To: Executive Director
